“My process unfolds and mingles with universal, organic tenets: transition and emergence, dimension and time, manifestation and absence, suspension and flux. Elements of the primordial, the barren and mass coalesce with light, the transparent, proliferation and the firmament. The delicate and ubiquitous balances between dark and light, matter and ether, dormancy and growth are the cynosures of my work.
I am interested in the formal qualities of painting: relationships between colour, texture, surface and spatial composition. I explore these elements through texturing media often over laid with thin washes and glazes applied mis en plat. Ambiguous residues, tonal depth and partially concealed textures are integral to my work. Commonly installed without traditional framing, my compositions carry over the edges of the stretched canvas or birch panel sides, giving the work a more sculptural quality. Each painting is the result of meditative subtraction and addition through layering. I use a variety of media including marble dust, acrylic polymer resins, acrylics, wax and oil pigments.”
