Sakura Season is Here

We were surprised to learn that the majority of cherry trees found here in Vancouver were donated to the Vancouver Park Board from Japan. The first trees arrived in the early 1930’s followed by 300 additional trees in 1958. It’s photographs like the one we took in Gastown today that remind us of the years we spent living in Tokyo.

Purebread – New Bakery in Gastown

What an amazing selection of goodies! We tried the Lavender and Earl Grey as well as the Buckwheat and Sour Cherry Scone. Both put a smile on our faces. Rave reviews from everyone who we’ve introduced to this wonderful addition to the neighbourhood.

Victoria Block

A little history about our new home in the Victoria Block…

“The first and central building, Victoria, was built in 1898 at the time of the great Gold Rush. Built to house prospectors, explorers, and new comers searching for gold in our wild and rugged British Columbia. The second building, Victoria Block, was built in 1908 to house the numerous real estate offices for the turn of the century real estate boom. The two buildings stand proudly at the corner of Homer and Pender Streets.” – Victorian Hotel –
